Intermodal transport – the requirements

Not all bulk materials are suitable for intermodal transport. Only when it is in line with certain requirements is it an appropriate means for logistics. This already commences with loading which should, whenever possible, be implemented without truck pre-carriage. The ideal solution for this is directloading into a special i4T container. Transport routes of less than 200 km one way are in general not suitable for intermodal transport. The related equipment requires a high rotation speed – the critical amount ranges at a volume of 50,000 tons/year.

The on-carriage to the destination terminals should not exceed 100 km, apart from exceptional cases.

Intermodal transports are particularly interesting when different markets with strongly varying prices can be supplied. Profits that cannot be realized in the direct environment of the manufacturer can perhaps be realized in other markets.
